As I sit here, much closer to Brazil than before, geographically speaking, I can’t help but think of the struggle that women, especially black women, face there as well as the work that so many do around the world to try to bring about a long overdue equality and equanimity, across the board.

It is especially poignant that I see purple all over this place as Easter descends. Knowing that it was a powerful shade to represent her movement in Brazil means I will be constantly reminded of her and that struggle over the next 2 weeks… and on, I am sure.

Rest in power, Marielle.
